About the West Michigan Miracle League

WEST MICHIGAN MIRACLE LEAGUE

Our Story

We love kids, baseball, and the spirit of the Miracle League. We have come together out of our love and support for a little boy, Jed, who loves to play baseball. Jed is a brain cancer survivor who was left with physical limitations after the tumor resection, chemo therapy treatments and a stem cell transplant. Through his amazing spirit and God’s grace, Jed played baseball in a conventional tee-ball league for a few years.

We have seen how Jed has benefited from playing baseball. His self-confidence and self-esteem have improved. He has become physically stronger. He’s made new friends and learned the value of being on a team. Most importantly, it’s helped to break down barriers for kids with disabilities. Until he had the opportunity to play baseball, Jed always cheered for his family at their sporting events. Baseball has given Jed the opportunity to have his family cheer for him.

We want to share that experience with others in West Michigan. The West Michigan Miracle League will provide this opportunity to kids with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Our Latest Fundraiser

We have raised money for the second phase of an accessible playground that is adjacent to Nate Hurwitz Field. Players and friends are able to come early to the games or stay after and play on a playground where they are not limited by steps and ladders.

All children, regardless of ability, are able to enjoy this playground. We will evaluate improvements and additional pieces of equipment as time and money allow.

Fifth Third Bank and West MI Miracle League partner to elevate the player experience

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) – Fifth Third Bank and the West Michigan Miracle League teamed up to surprise players and parents on the final weekend of the spring season, a new videoboard and their own baseball card.

When Nate Hurwitz Field was completed in 2013 a new era of baseball began in West Michigan. The field is designed to be accessible and fun so athletes with disabilities can enjoy America’s favorite pastime. Fun at the ballpark took a new twist when Fifth Third started talking with the West Michigan Miracle League earlier this year. The field and surrounding facilities are in great shape but there was one item at the top of their wish list, a videoboard.
