“GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The West Michigan Miracle League is within $75,000 of having a 2013 season following the announcement of a major donation.
The Hurwitz and Berkowitz families have donated $130,000 in memory of Nate Hurwitz to the WMML as it nears its fundraising goal to build a field as a part of the West Michigan Sports Commission’s 12-field championship baseball and softball complex in Plainfield Township.
About $450,000 is committed to constructing a Miracle League field at the facility, known overall as the Art Van Sports Complex, which broke ground in September on 10 Mile Road in Rockford, toward a goal of $600,000. Officials believe another $75,000 will enable construction to begin in the spring.
The donation by family members was made to honor the dream of Hurwitz, the 16-year-old WMML board member whose goal was to give disabled children a place to play baseball, a sport he loved but was never able to play.”
