GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The West Michigan Miracle League is closing in on opening ceremonies, and organizers still have space available for participants.

About 30 kids have registered to play, said Tony Comden, president of the WMML, and he would like to have more to field four teams.

Opening Day at Nate Hurwitz Field, home of the West Michigan Miracle League, will be Saturday, Sept. 21.

Kids between the ages of 5 and 18 who have a disability that limits their ability to play baseball in a conventional baseball league are eligible to play. The league provides a volunteer “buddy” for every player, and they help the player have fun and be safe. For example, the buddy will help him or her hit and then push the player around the bases.

The score is not kept, and every child will bat, get on base, and score a run.
