GRAND RAPIDS, MI –The Grand Rapids Community Foundation announced Wednesday, Jan. 2, that it awarded a $25,000 grant to the West Michigan Miracle League, an organization that provides children with mental and physical disabilities an opportunity to play baseball.
In December, the WMML made a push to raise $75,000 to begin construction in the spring on the first-of-its-kind field in West Michigan at the Art Van Sports Complex in Plainfield Township. Nearly $500,000 is committed to the field toward a goal of $600,000.
“We are pleased to play a supportive role in the creation of this ball field. Ensuring that opportunities for equal access to sports and recreation are available to kids with disabilities in West Michigan is important to us,” said Diana Sieger, president of Grand Rapids Community Foundation.
“The West Michigan Miracle League has been truly humbled by the community’s support as we strive to meet our fundraising goal. We are so close, and thrilled to continue seeing the excitement build throughout West Michigan,” said Tony Comden, West Michigan Miracle League president. “We are eager to provide a place for special-needs children to play baseball in West Michigan, and are confident that our dream can become a reality this year.”
