“GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Dan Hurwitz has a simple answer to those who inquire about how to help in the wake of the sudden death of Nate Hurwitz, his 16-year-old son whose goal of giving disabled children a place to play baseball struck a chord throughout West Michigan.

“I tell them the same thing: We’ve got to get that field built,” Dan Hurwitz said. “It’s what he wanted for other kids.”

Nate, a junior at Forest Hills Eastern High School, suffered from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare degenerative muscle disease that meant he had to use a wheelchair for much of his childhood. The teen died from a bout with pneumonia and an infection that spread quickly to his heart and lungs.”
