ROCKFORD – Tony Comden was attending friend Nate Hurwitz’s funeral last September when he felt a big slap on his back.

Comden, of Zeeland, turned to find Hurwitz’s father, Dan Hurwitz, standing behind him with words of encouragement.

The field, which is being designed to host games for children with physical and mental disabilities, is included in the West Michigan Sports Commission’s Art Van Sports Complex, 3300 Ten Mile Road in Rockford. Construction for the complex, which will offer 12 baseball and softball fields, began last September.
